The companion to ISO 26262: where ISO 26262 governs safety in the presence of faults, SOTIF governs the residual risk arising when a fault-free intended function (e.g. an ADAS / autonomous perception or decision function) behaves unsafely at the edge of, or outside, its specified operating envelope (performance limitations, foreseeable misuse, triggering conditions).
